Get The Look Of Joanna Gaines' Bold Living Room Style
By LEAH THOMSEN
In one “Fixer Upper” home renovation, HGTV star and designer Joanna Gaines used a bright blue mid-century modern sofa to create an eye-catching focal point in a neutral room.
The bright cerulean blue was a bold departure from the traditional brown, gray, or beige traditionally used in country-style homes, yet Gaines still maintained a cohesive design.
The key was to choose a sofa in a style, shade, size, and material that complemented the room’s overall style. Gaines used a geometric couch with tufted seating and thin legs.
For comparison, an oversized sectional or all-over-tufted Victorian sofa would have clashed with the style of the space instead of lifting and balancing the overall aesthetic.
A brightly colored, richly textured sofa adds interest and depth against a subdued background but must harmonize with the existing style, decor, and dominant shades of the room.
If there are already accents in contrasting colors, adding another bright hue can make the space look crowded and busy. In this case, select a couch in a bright but similar shade.
