If you notice wasps in your garden, instead of attacking them with insecticides or poisonous sprays, simply call in the chickadees — native birds that feed on insects like wasps.
There are several species of chickadee (Poecile spp.) throughout the U.S., and they all love eating wasps. Invite them to come into your yard by making it more appealing to them.
While about 70% of a chickadee's diet comes from wasps and other insects, they also eat nuts and seeds. Stock up your bird feeders to offer them a year-round food source.
Make sure to provide water, like a pond or a bird bath. Also put up nest tubes and boxes — chickadees will use them even though they naturally nest in the cavities of old trees.
Growing native trees will also attract them, and studies show that growing at least 70% native plants massively improves the survival rate of native birds like chickadees.
