Follow These Steps To Safely Remove A Tree Stump Without Professionals

Before removing a tree stump, examine its size and condition and determine if the stump is small enough to remove manually or if chemical assistance would be better.
If you decide on chemical removal, start by drilling holes a few inches apart across the top of the stump using a wide drill bit. Then, fill the holes with the stump remover.
Cover the stump with a tarp or plastic to retain moisture, and wait several weeks for the chemical solution to soften the wood. Once the stump becomes soft, you can break it apart.
If you decide on manual removal, you’ll need to dig around the stump to expose the root system. Use an ax or saw to cut away the roots from the stump, working down to the taproot.
Once you reach the taproot, dig around it to pry it loose from the ground — you may need to use a winch if the stump is stubborn. Make sure you properly dispose of all debris.
