Fixer Uppers' Chip Gaines Sees This Common Paint Mistake All The Time
By MARCO ROSSI
While painting always seems like an easy task, it’s never really simple. HGTV’s “Fixer Upper” star Chip Gaines explains the most common mistake people make is skipping prep work.
People often skip properly taping down trim, sanding bumps, or adding primer to save time. According to Gaines, these steps are essential to having a flawless final coat.
It is essential to sand bumps or fill in cracks to avoid bumpy, uneven textures. Not removing built-up dust or grime can also prevent the paint from properly adhering to the wall.
Primer cannot be skipped. It covers the previous paint job, hides stains, fills in cracks, and helps bring out the true color of your new paint.
