Fill Holes In Your Summer Garden With This Long-Lasting Flower
By KENNA O'ROURKE
Maintaining a garden through the searing heat of summer can be tough. To enjoy continuous blooms in the hottest months, consider planting colorful and long-lasting globe amaranth.
Although globe amaranth prefers consistent moisture, it is very drought-tolerant once mature. It also thrives under full sun and tolerates heat well, making it perfect for summer.
Its long blooming window (from June to the first frost) and flexible sowing period (from April to September) make it great for filling in garden spots that died off during summer.
Furthermore, globe amaranth is extremely easy to grow from seed in either containers or garden beds. Sow it six to eight weeks before the last frost for maximum spring blooms.
Globe amaranth is fairly low-maintenance, requiring only minimal pinching to encourage growth. It can be cut for fresh arrangements or dried before it blooms to preserve its color.
