If you're looking to quickly fill bald spots in your lawn, perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) is an excellent option. Its small brown seeds can sprout in just five
to 10 days.
In moderate temperatures, germination can occur even sooner — within three to five days. This fast-growing grass can establish a lush, green lawn in as little as one to
two months.
For quick results, plant the seeds between March and September, and water frequently to a depth of 6 to 12 inches. You'll need about 6 to 9 pounds of seed per 1,000 square feet.
Perennial ryegrass is low maintenance and, once established, can thrive for three to four years without needing reseeding, aside from occasional patching of bare spots.
