Everyone Is Loving Joanna Gaines' Retro Fireplace Design Idea
By SHARON KONG PERRING
Joanna Gaines showcased her design versatility in “Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse” by incorporating a carousel fireplace — a fixture popular in the 1960s and ‘70s — into the rec room.
First introduced in 1968, the carousel fireplace features a round glass body, sleek conical head, and unique swirling flames for a space-aged yet rustically approachable design.
Gaines embraced the lakehouse's mid-century essence, writing on the Magnolia blog, “it's not always necessary to reinvent the wheel,” which is why she included the retro touch.
Carousel fireplaces add charm and increase home value, and new ones from Malm range from $6,000 for a 32-inch model to $18,000 for a 41 ½-inch piece, especially in copper.
For budget-friendly options, consider vintage models. True vintage carousels can be found for as low as $1,200 on auction sites, while Etsy listings range from $1,700 to $3,000.
