Easily Remove Rust From Stainless Steel With This Household Staple
By ETHAN HARRISON SMITH
After repeated exposure to chemicals and moisture, your stainless steel appliances and fixtures can get rusty. Luckily, you can easily restore their shine by using cream of tartar.
Also called potassium bitartrate, this powder is often used in baking. It’s made from grapes during winemaking, and its acidity makes it effective at removing rust from steel.
Simply mix 1 tablespoon of cream of tartar and a few drops of lemon juice into a paste, then use a soft sponge to apply it to rusty areas on your stainless steel item.
Wipe off the paste with a soft damp sponge — don’t use anything abrasive, like a scouring sponge, as it can scratch the surface. Then, dry the item thoroughly with a paper towel.
