Design Features Hilary Farr Says To Avoid Putting In Your Kitchen
By ADRIANNA MACPHERSON
Hilary Farr from HGTV’s "Love It or List It" and "Tough Love With Hilary Farr" helps homeowners get the kitchen of their dreams, but, there are some design elements she suggests avoiding. First, the hardware on your cabinets can be distracting, so instead, she says to swap outdated hardware for options that are "lean and very linear."
One of the most prominent features in a kitchen is the cabinets as they can express how a kitchen feels and looks, but try avoiding stained wood grain cabinetry as it can be distracting and pull focus away from other elements. Farr does provide an exception to chic walnut cabinetry if your home has other touches of walnut.
Farr’s final tip is to avoid splashing distracting amounts of color all over your kitchen. Instead, she recommends pulling in colors that appear elsewhere in your house for a more cohesive look that allows the design details of your kitchen to truly shine.
