Create An Elevated And Cozy Look With Joanna Gaines' Pillow Styling Tip
By HELEN ANDRIATSITOHAINA
If you’re not sure how many throw pillows to use or what sizes and colors will work with your sofa, bed, or chair, HGTV’s Joanna Gaines has a system that makes styling them easy.
Her advice is to start with the base layer, then add a textured neutral, and finally finish with something bold to create a tasteful arrangement rather than cushion chaos.
Gaines begins with the largest pillow. On your bed, this can be the pillow you sleep on; a 24-inch or 20-inch pillow on a large sofa; or an 18-inch one for regular-sized furniture.
Next, layer on smaller pillows, keeping sizes within 2-4 inches of each other for a polished look. Gaines prefers using odd numbers (e.g., five or seven pillows on a bed or sofa).
Gaines uses neutral colors and varied textures for the base pillows, then finishes off with pops of color, patterns, varied shapes, or subtle motifs at the front to add interest.
While she prefers cozy, calming tones, she told Livingetc, “It's more about what speaks to you … as long as there's a unifying color or texture style that pulls it all together.”
