Clever Ways To Tell Apart The Crows And Ravens In Your Yard
By LAUREN KRYSTAF
Crows and ravens belong to the Corvus genus and are commonly called corvids. While they seem similar, careful attention reveals that they differ mainly in feathers, size, and call.
Many crow and raven species have shiny black feathers, but ravens are generally much larger than most crows and have shaggier feathers, especially on their chests.
While crows have a cawing call, ravens have a deep croaking call. Ravens remain solitary or hang around with just their mate, whereas crows are more social and form large groups.
Both birds are highly intelligent, with studies proving their ability to use tools. Crows recognize humans and are known to leave shiny objects as gifts for those who feed them.
