Clean And Disinfect Plastic Bags To Reuse Around The House
By CARRIE BRADON
Instagram user @cindydoedee shares how to clean and disinfect plastic bags for reuse — a practice that can help reduce waste and support a more sustainable lifestyle.
Start by adding a small amount of dish soap and about a cup of water into an empty plastic bag. Seal and shake it vigorously, then rinse it thoroughly to remove any soap residue.
Next, place the bag upside down on a dish rack to air dry. For a more thorough cleaning, turn the bag inside out before washing, especially if it has seams that can trap debris.
It’s critical to avoid reusing the bags that have held meat, eggs, fish, dairy products, or highly perishable items like salad mixes, as these can harbor harmful bacteria.
Always sniff cleaned bags to ensure there are no lingering odors. If anyone in your household has food allergies, be aware of potential residue that could trigger a reaction.
