Build A Bed Frame On A Budget With This DIY Pool Noodle Hack
By EZEKIEL MAINA
When sliced in half and snuggled neatly under fabric on a solid cardboard or wood plank, pool noodles can find new purpose as a DIY bed frame that’s budget friendly yet elegant.
You can start with the Big Joe 55 x 2 ½-inch noodle from Lowe's or the Sun Squad 50 x 2 ¼-inch one from Target, but it’s best to size up your bed to know the required dimensions.
With each piece of wood gobbling roughly five halves, you’ll need 20 halves or 10 whole pool noodles to fully cover the raw bedsides. To start, slice each noodle in half.
Cut the wooden boards down to size so that they match your bed’s dimensions. Then, grab one of those noodle halves and pop it on the end of your board (flat side down).
Drape a fabric over the top of the noodle, pull it snug, and lock it down with a staple gun. Keep lining the noodles up until you get a lineup of road-bump-like tufts on the board.
Once you’ve done this for all four boards, whip the fabric edges over to the back of each board, staple them down, and trim any excess material off for a clean finish.
Line up those dress-up boards against the sides of your bed, securing each adjoining corner with an L-shaped corner brace for wood. Finally, slide your mattress back in.
