These iconic yellow blooms can grow in shallow soil, thrive in any soil texture, and can tolerate some waterlogging. The towering plants aren’t fussy about space either.
Lavender does need well-draining soil, but it actually prefers gravelly textures to rich soil. Plant it in a place with full sun and enjoy its fragrant blooms in summer.
Although moss roses require well-draining soil, they thrive in low-nutrient conditions and are drought-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about keeping the soil moist.
Cosmos flowers are unfazed by poor soil and grow across hardiness zones 2 to 11. All they need is full sunlight to unleash their beautiful blooms in a variety of colors.
While this resilient perennial prefers well-draining, moist soil, it will happily grow in a variety of poor soils between hardiness zones 4 to 8 if given enough sunlight.
