Tropical
The red, yellow, pink, or orange blooms of tropical hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) last just a single day. Plant them in containers or beds with lots of sun and water.
Perennial in zones 8-11 and annual in zones 3-7, roselle hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa) has red stems and red-veined leaves, and it needs 12 hours of darkness to bloom.
In summer through early fall, hardy hibiscus (Hibiscus moscheutos) blooms grow up to 8 inches across. Hardy in zones 4-9, these perennials reach 2 to 6 feet tall in full sun.
This Hibiscus moscheutos hybrid grows white blooms with purple-pink veins and a deep reddish-pink center. With full sun and moist soil, it thrives in zones 4-9.
Another Hibiscus moscheutos hybrid, this perennial grows dark red blooms from July through October that reach 8-10 inches across. It needs full sun or partial shade.
