Avoid This Dangerous Mistake When Cleaning Your Microwave
By DANIELLE RAMOS-SULLIVAN
Like any kitchen appliance, microwaves require proper care. While cleaning them is usually simple, getting the control panel wet can lead to costly repairs and safety hazards.
Your microwave’s control panel houses delicate electronic components that power the appliance. If water somehow gets inside, it can short out the control board or touchpad.
Even small amounts of water can corrode the components over time, eventually rendering them unusable. This causes the microwave to glitch or even stop working altogether.
Replacing the control panel can cost up to $500, so prevention is key. Use a dry or damp cloth to clean, do not spray cleaner onto the panel, and keep steaming dishes away from it.
