Gardeners recommend burying banana peels in your garden, as their high potassium content supercharges the blooming of your hydrangeas. However, there’s a better way to use them.
While banana peels will break down eventually if you bury them in the soil, this method temporarily ties up nitrogen, making this essential nutrient unusable for your plants.
A much more effective way to utilize your banana peels is to add them to your compost pile and only give them to your hydrangeas once they’ve fully broken down to form compost.
In a well-maintained compost pile, it takes far less time for banana peels to decompose sufficiently to produce a healthy compost for your hydrangeas than when left in the garden.
