All The Expected Costs Of Leveling And Regrading Your Yard
By JANELLE WARD
Whether for safety or aesthetic reasons, regrading and leveling your yard can be very expensive, but the cost of leaving landscaping problems unattended can be worse down the line.
Leveling refers to evening out a bumpy lawn by redistributing existing soil, and regrading is a type of leveling that aims to improve the flow of rainwater around your property.
The costs involved to level or regrade your yard depend on its size and steepness of the slope — for example, regrading an acre of land can cost between $15,000 and $45,000.
Time-consuming and physically demanding leveling and grading projects can cost as much as $2 per square foot, while average projects cost between $0.50 and $1.50 per square foot.
Regrading to install a pool costs up to $1,000, regrading for a driveway costs up to $2,500, and regrading a yard can cost $5,000 or more, especially to remove a hill or slope.
It’s important to inspect your property for signs of deterioration, as your yard's grading can get worse over time, especially if you live on a steep hillside or close to water.
A steeply sloped yard can cause drainage issues that can damage your home's foundation, so identify problems like cracking early and rectify them with leveling and grading methods.
Check your lawn for signs of inefficient drainage after rain, like standing water and slopes directing water toward your home, and ensure gutters are preventing water from pooling.
