Alka-Seltzer Is The Secret To Cleaning Your Dirty Shower
By MARCO ROSSI
Scrubbing shower tiles is hard work and can be an unpleasant task, but it turns out that Alka-Seltzer — the same tablets that relieve heartburn or an upset stomach — can help.
The Alka-Seltzer method avoids the need for harsh, smelly cleaning chemicals. Instead, it uses the power of three key ingredients: aspirin, citric acid, and sodium bicarbonate
Fill a spray bottle with warm water, then add 4 to 5 tablets, and allow them to dissolve completely. Spray your tiles, wait a minute or two for the mix to work, then sponge it off.
Salicylic acid in aspirin helps lift stains on tiles and grout, while citric acid can remove hard water marks and soap scum, as well as neutralize bacteria, mold, and mildew.
Sodium bicarbonate is a natural abrasive and deodorizer, so it will leave your shower smelling fresh and clean. This hack is also a great way to repurpose tablets you don’t need.
