One of the best plants you can grow to attract hummingbirds is cobwebby thistle. Native to the Southwest, this type of thistle will also bring some gorgeous character to your yard.
Cobwebby thistle
Cobwebby thistle thrives in well-drained, sandy soil; the soil can range from dry to moist. It prefers full sun and won't do very well if you decide to grow it in a shaded spot.

This biennial plant will take two years to flower and can grow from 2 to 5 feet tall. Place this thistle somewhere it can thrive without blocking your views or getting in the way.
