Many don’t realize that potato plants are extremely toxic and can be fatal to pets and humans if consumed. However, their underground tubers are edible and delicious when made into classics like mashed potatoes, french fries, or hashbrowns.
Naranjilla
An herbaceous shrub, the naranjilla plant produces a leathery orange fruit that tastes like pineapple and lemon, but be careful as their tiny hairs could irritate the skin. This plant also blossoms fragrant white flowers that are very ornamental.
Tomato Plant
These well-known garden plants are grown all over the United States, especially during summer. Tomato plants are perennials that have many different varieties, but look out for pests and diseases that may accompany them.
Ground Cherry
Similar to the average garden tomato, ground cherry plants produce a fruit smaller than a tomatillo and wrapped in a papery husk. These plants grow best in mild climates where they won’t receive much heat, and watch out for possible frost damage.
