- Garnet is a pioneer of online home, décor, and lifestyle advice. Since 2009, she's written hundreds of blogs and how-to articles.
- Her friends know that if she's driving, they may have to help salvage discarded furniture if she spots an abandoned piece by the side of the road.
- In 2023, conservationists humanely removed 30,000 bees and 150 pounds of honey from a crawlspace in Garnet's home.
Experience
Garnet began writing professionally when the 2008 market crash forced an unexpected career change. By kismet or accident, a children's mobile application developer hired her to write scripts, lyrics, and poetry. That experience led to writing and ghostwriting for clients and publishers, including Daily Puppy, eHow, Garden Guides, Hub Pages, King Features Syndicate, and the print magazines Engagement 101 and Texas Living. She is renovating her third home and garden and brings her years of hands-on experience to her role at House Digest. While remodeling homes, her extravagant décor dreams often outpaced her finances. So, Garnet learned to tile, mosaic, lay flooring, paint, re-finish furniture, install light fixtures, sew, upholster, and landscape. Her interior design passions include California Mission, Arts and Crafts, and Art Nouveau styles. Garnet's desire for Scalamandré silk velvets is hindered by her menagerie of beloved rescue pets and the reality of her budget. She shares advice to solve the same dilemma for homeowners, parents, and pet lovers: the longing for extravagant beauty versus the need for practicality.
Education
Garnet earned a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of California at Los Angeles.
