A Look Inside Rapper Ad-Rock's Former Home Being Sold For Just $1 Million

Adam Horovitz's (better known as Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys) former home with his ex-wife, Ione Skye, has hit the market for just a little over $1 million. Located in the West Village, Horovitz and Skye lived in the co-op together in the early '90s, according to New York Post, and moved out following their split in 1995; Horovitz sold the home in 2002 to the owner of the now-closed popular celebrity hangout the Paris Commune.

The home, listed with Corcoran, is using its celebrity history to its benefit, the listing advertising the legacy the Beastie Boys created in that very condo. They even make note that the famous "Charles Street Shuffle" photograph was taken during Horovitz residency, taking place just down the street at PS 41 on West 11th. While purchasing this condo may not come with a rock session with the Beastie Boys, it does come with a multitude of other benefits, including location, quality, and beauty.

The pre-war West 11th property

The West Village co-op was built in 1910, according to the Corcoran listing, offering pre-war historical charm on top of the legacy left by Ad-Rock. The 500 square foot property is north facing, protecting you from the heat of any direct summer sun rays. Some original features of the home include the flooring, which was leftover from when the building was a townhouse. The listing also says the windows overlook Bleecker Playground, a park located at Bleecker and West 11th, as well as other shops and homes located on Bleecker. The building is also pet friendly.

The street view of the condo is also gorgeous, with beautiful old brick walls, black iron detailing, and historical appeal. The building shares an English garden accessible to all residents, with a paved stone patio, surrounding stone brick walls, and tufts of ivy growing down above the raised garden beds for a romantic and relaxing feel.

Inside Ad-Rock's former condo

The front door of the condo leads out to the living room, which has gorgeous, warm, and wide-planked original wood flooring. Two windows that face out onto the street provide plenty of natural light, which only further reflects on the white walls. There is a beautiful fireplace the room focuses on, painted white with a brick interior and iron fireguard. There is a closet that holds a washer and dryer unit with a built-in bookshelf above it to the other end of the room, expertly and discreetly providing storage in the smaller co-op.

An archway leads away from the living room and into the hallway, which heads toward the front door. Directly next to the front door is another built-in shelf, this one being floor to ceiling. The hallway also provides access to the unit's one bedroom and one bathroom, as well as the kitchen. The hallway is small and functional but quite wide for the square footage, providing plenty of space to walk through while still being able to decorate.

More of the historic building

The kitchen is small but mighty, perfectly fitting into the allotted space. The original wood flooring continues into the kitchen, which has just enough room for a stove, a sink, two counters, and a mini-fridge. Above the stove is a steel shelf, shown in the listing photos holding a microwave. Another steel shelf above one of the counters is ideal for storing pantry goods in the cramped quarters. The kitchen, though small, is very nice to look at, with warm wood cabinets and countertops, sleek black steel appliances, and a tiled backsplash. If the kitchen gets a little too cramped, the abundance of shops and restaurants accessible in the surrounding area more than makes up for it.

The bedroom also faces the street, with a large window providing views out and plenty of light in. There are two closets in the bedroom — a double door closet with built-in cabinets above it and a smaller single door closet right next to it. The walls are painted a greige color, and there are two golden sconces in the room to provide extra light. Though the condo is small, the bathroom has a full shower tub combo.
