Inside Mary J. Blige's Luxurious New Jersey Home
Mary J. Blige, the "Queen of Hip-Hop Soul," singer-songwriter, and actress, has finally sold her New Jersey mansion. The musician listed the house in 2015 for $13 million, then lowered it to $6.8 million in 2019, finally selling it for the most recent asking price in 2020, according to Hello! magazine. Blige purchased the home in 2008 for $12.3 million, and took a major loss on the final sale — just like these celebs who sold homes for much less than they bought them for.
The house is 18,250 square feet in size, with eight bedrooms, 10 full bathrooms, three half bathrooms, a gym and sauna, home theater, wine cellar with a tasting room, arcade room, indoor basketball court, and an elevator that accesses each of the home's three levels, as well as the six-car garage. There is also a pool house on the property, which sits behind the massive luxury pool in the backyard. Blige owns another home in New Jersey, which is also on the market.
The grand entryway and living rooms in Mary J. Blige's home
Upon walking into the superstar's mansion on a home tour by NJLux Real Estate, you immediately notice the luxurious marble flooring. Two arched entryways lead into living rooms, and the other side of the room is occupied by a gorgeous spiral staircase. The first living room is bright and airy, with light green walls and light wood floors, multiple large windows that let in plenty of light, and tall ceilings that create a spacious environment.
The second living room in Mary J. Blige's residence is more intimate and demure, with muted yellow walls, windows only on one side, double glass doors leading outside (though they still let in plenty of light), an ornate fireplace, darker wood floors, and the dark doors framing the office.
The office is incredibly ornate and academic, with dark cherry wood walls and ceilings and dark wood floors. A large bay window allows plenty of sunshine into the room. There is also a large fireplace in the office, as well as multiple built-in shelves.
Mary J. Blige's gorgeous kitchen
Per the NJLux Real Estate tour, Mary J. Blige's kitchen is any chef's dream, with more than ample counter and cabinet space, a large gas range stove, two kitchen islands, a built-in coffee and espresso machine, a wooden front fridge to blend in with the cabinets, a walk-in pantry, and scullery. The kitchen is gorgeous with a Tuscan inspired feel, and features Mediterranean style tan tiles, large wooden arches, engraved chestnut cabinets, and pendant lights.
Attached to the kitchen is a breakfast nook. The nook is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows and topped by a domed ceiling with a large pendant light, and perfectly fits a round table with at least six chairs. There are a few dining rooms in the house, all carrying on the grand tradition of the house. The breakfast nook leads into yet another sitting room, providing optimal luxury and comfort. The kitchen and dining areas are the perfect place to start and end the day, offering both luxury and grandeur as well as a cozy, domestically comfortable environment.
Mary J. Blige's luxurious master suite
While you can see that Mary J. Blige's mansion is outfitted with eight bedrooms on the NJLux Real Estate walk-through, plus the pool house, the real winner is the master suite. After ascending the dramatic and gorgeous staircase with a wrought iron border, a set of engraved double doors lead into the suite's sitting area. The sitting area is spacious and airy, with tall ceiling, white walls, light wood floors, and two large windows with lots of greenery outside. There is also a white fireplace in the sitting room.
An archway leads into the bedroom itself, which also has tall ceilings, white walls with molding on the walls and ceiling, and an archway leading into the walk-in closet. There are also two large windows on either side of French glass doors leading onto the balcony, which overlooks the luxurious pool, poolhouse, and backyard.
Other features in the mansion include a large wine cellar with a tasting room, a complete home gym, a game room with a games table and multiple arcade games, an entertainment room/home theater, and a sauna.
