Everything We Know About The Luxury Las Vegas Bunker That Just Hit The Market
After almost 10 years, the luxury Las Vegas bunker has hit the real estate market once again. Most recently owned by the Society for the Preservation of Near Extinct Species, this infamously extravagant, subterranean home (AKA The Las Vegas Underground House) was last seen on the market in 2013. The house is described as a gigantic, underground luxury bunker on Zillow and boasts 16,936 square feet on 1.05 acres of land. It consists of five bedrooms and six bathrooms with a current listing price of $5,900,000. There's also a 5,000-square-foot single-story home located above the shelter along with a 450-square-foot guest house on the property.
The exclusive bunker was originally built in 1978 by entrepreneur Jerry Henderson, who established the vintage company Underground World Homes. Through his passion for alternative living, along with his awareness of the potential realities of the Cold War, Henderson was able to create all the amenities of home in this concrete burrow, where he dwelled in it with his wife until his death in 1983. Mary Henderson built a townhouse on top of the bunker, and she lived there until her death in 1989. With several owners over the years, the Society took ownership in 2014 (purchased for $1.15 million), making several renovations and improvements.
A deluxe bunker with retro style
The 15,000-square-foot bomb shelter showcases a retro style patio and garden, ready to go under fire. Located at 3970 Spencer Street in a quiet neighborhood just 2.5 miles east of the Las Vegas Strip, the Zen-like atmosphere features a pool, spa, waterfall, grass turf, imitation trees, BBQ, and a four-hole putting green. To get there, an elevator descends to the subterranean utopian structure. Henderson also constructed two bedrooms inside an 800-square-foot bungalow house, per the New York Post.
Down below, there is wall décor depicting various nature scenes, including 500 feet of landscape murals, courtyard seating, and a lifelike replica of the blue sky on the ceiling. There's even artificial lighting that can be controlled to represent and change any time of the day you choose. This unique bunker of luxury is full of leisure activities to entertain while hunkered down for an undetermined amount of time. According to the Zillow listing, all the furnishings are included, and most systems have been recently updated. Private viewings will be limited, but can be scheduled via the current listing. Virtual tours are also available.
