DIY The Most Stunning Industrial-Inspired Wall Lamp Using Aluminum Sheets

Have you ever admired those edgy industrial interior designs that seem straight out of a Berlin loft or Brooklyn gallery? You've probably noticed that these interiors have one thing in common: minimalist metal accent pieces. Maybe you've even considered buying one of these pieces only to realize it was completely out of your price range. Well, what if you could DIY this aesthetic at home? With two aluminum sheets, some tools, and a few other supplies, you can DIY the most stunning industrial-inspired wall lamp.

The most important supplies you'll need to find are two flat, thin, and rigid aluminum sheets. Look for sheets that are between 0.02 and 0.06 inches thin so that they are lightweight and can easily attach onto the wall. You can choose the exact dimensions based on how big or small you want the light fixture to be. Rectangles in the 10 by 20 inches range or smaller work well, like this Lswteiz two-pack of aluminum sheet metal. In addition, buy a pack of simple metal hinges like these Piutouyar mini stainless steel hinges. Finally, to complete this project, you'll need something like the DiCUNO hanging lantern extension cord cable, which comes with hanging hooks and a switch. A white cord will blend in on a white wall, but look for different colors if you're planning to attach the DIY lamp to a colored wall instead. You could also pair it with a DIY faux concrete accent wall for a complete industrial look.

How to make a wall lamp out of metal sheets

This DIY is fairly simple. The idea is to use the hinges to attach the metal sheets directly to the wall. Your light bulb and cord attach behind these sheets, so that the light comes through as if it were an ajar door. To do this, make holes with a drill in the metal sheets where you plan to attach the hinges. Like in the video, you can use one hinge on each sheet, attached at the center. To make this project a bit sturdier, attach two hinges to each sheet in the corners. That way, the metal sheets won't weigh too heavily on the hinges and cause them to break. Attach the metal sheets so that they create an empty triangle space behind them, where the lightbulb will go. Once attached with its hooks, the lantern's cord can dangle down underneath the DIY lamp, where you can use the switch to turn it on and off.

Consider using color-changing smart lightbulbs to personalize your home and the setup even more. Another adaptation would be to use rechargeable cordless lights instead of the lantern, like these MCGOR under cabinet lights. That way, your DIY light fixture will look like it's floating without any cables. However you adapt it, this is a great DIY to add the metallic silver trend into your home
