DIY The Most Enchanting Tree Light Chandelier
If your design style falls outside the box, you may have trouble finding decor pieces in stores, such as those fitting the whimsigothic style. A breakdown of whimsigothic, or "whimsigoth" is exactly as it sounds — part whimsy, part gothic. The term was coined in 2020 and refers to an interior design style that's part Edgar Allan Poe, part Lord of the Rings fantasy. If this look has you under its spell, you might find pieces at antique malls or handmade creations on Etsy for a steep price. Or, you can DIY the perfect whimsigoth tree light chandelier for around $20 or less.
The whimsigoth style uses elements of the mystical and the natural, and this DIY tree light chandelier from @thisartperson on Instagram is a great mix of both. Crystals and fairy lights evoke a magical look, while black faux branches and flowers bring it back to nature. Lighting is also an essential part of whimsigoth style, especially the low, warm light you get from a candelabra, or in this case, string lights. This project is not just for lovers of the mashup style: It has the natural materials, romance, and handmade quality of the ultimate cottagecore look, and feels right at home in bohemian and biophilic spaces as well.
How to craft a tree light chandelier
This DIY project starts with bendable craft wire such as TecUnite Aluminum Craft Wire. First, create a loose circle of wire, as if you were making a wreath or crown. Cover the wire in masking tape, wrapping in uneven layers and lumps for a more organic feel. Cut lengths of wire to make branches. Each branch will take around five pieces of wire, and you can make them as long as you wish (wrap short branches around the base crown, hanging longer ones down like vines). Once each branch has been sculpted, wrap it in layers of masking tape. Once you've completed sculpting your chandelier, paint over the masking tape using a thin paint brush or paint pen. Use black for a traditional goth cottagecore look, a shade of brown for a realistic, natural look, or go for a bright color that coordinates with your room's decor.
Next, wrap your chandelier in LED string lights. LED lights are preferable over incandescent because they give off less heat and last longer. The look of the lights is entirely up to you. The LIGHTOP Flower Fairy Lights look like flowers. Other versions are shaped like leaves or more typical fairy lights. You can leave the chandelier as-is at this point, or add further embellishments. These FQTANJU Acrylic Crystal Clear Beads will add whimsy to your chandelier, or bring in more natural elements using craft moss, leaves, or faux or dried flowers.
