Upcycle An Old Jar & Trophy Into The Coolest Home Storage Solution With An Easy DIY

Too many old trophies can be more of a burden than a source of pride. While each trophy once represented a meaningful achievement, they can quickly accumulate and take up valuable space, especially if they're no longer emotionally significant. Displaying dozens of dusty awards can also create visual clutter, making it harder to appreciate the ones that truly matter.

If you are facing the tough decision of what to do with your old trophies, rather than keeping, donating, or throwing them away, there is another option you might consider: Repurposing them to create unique kitchen storage jars. This project is so easy, you might wonder why you hadn't thought of it before; you just need an old trophy, a jar and lid, a drill, a washer, and a nut. There are some fun ways to customize your storage jar, too, and if you have more old trophies than you know what to do with, there are other ways to use them.

Assembling your trophy-topped storage jar

To start, remove the topper from your trophy. Do this for most trophies by holding the base with one hand and the topper with the other and unscrewing it. After you remove it, make sure your drill bit, washer, and nut are the same size as the bottom of the topper. Next, find the center of your lid, mark it, and drill a hole. So your lid doesn't go every which way while drilling, lay down a piece of wood, place the lid on top of it, and then drill (it's a good idea to sharpen your drill bit first). Then, insert your trophy topper (you may need to screw it in a little bit), place a washer, and screw on a nut. That's it; you now have a jar with a lid like no other.

To add another layer of uniqueness, drill a hole in a medallion, old door handle backing plate, or other flat item, and place it on the jar lid before screwing in your trophy topper. You can also give the medallion and trophy a coat of spray paint to match your kitchen's décor. This is a great idea if you are customizing a set of jars for flour, sugar, and coffee. This idea can also be applied to other objects, such as repurposed wine corks. You can even screw your old trophy toppers into a board for a wall-mounted coat rack.
