Create Unkillable Plants For Your Home With This Cute DIY
Do you love the look of plants but just can't manage to keep them alive? You're not alone. If you're the type of person who only remembers to water plants once they've already dried out, there are other ways to bring beautiful yet unkillable greenery into your home. And no, we're not just talking about putting fake plants in your house. With just a few arts and crafts supplies, you can create a lookalike String of Pearls (Senecio rowleyanus) with actual beads. It's a fun and crafty way to mimic the natural, beaded look of a String of Pearls without having to grow one.
To do this hack, you'll need some jewelry wire. You can use any wire you have at home that fits inside of beads, but some Benecreat 20-gauge aluminum wire in green is perfect for faux plant DIYs. You'll also need a small decorative pot, which you can upcycle from home, thrift secondhand, or buy new. In addition, get some Florare floral foam blocks from which you can cut a section to fill your chosen pot. Finally, the star of the show: beads. Pandahall's green acrylic leaves beads come in a pack of different shades and shapes that you can use. Add a handful of small accent color beads (yellow, purple, pink or even red) to the mix to act as flowers or berries.
Creating a fake plant with beads and wire
To create this beautiful DIY, start by cutting a small section of floral foam and placing it into the pot of your choice. To cut the section, use a sharp knife as you typically would. The difference, however, is that you don't need to pre-soak the foam (remember, this is a plant you can't kill). Next up, place beads on a section of wire to create a "branch" like in the video. Make a small loop at the end of the branch with the wire to prevent the beads from falling out. Stick the other end of the wire into the floral foam, and repeat this step as many times as you'd like to create more beaded branches. If you'd like this to be a long-lasting project, add a dot of hot glue to the wire where you place it in the foam. This will prevent branches from falling out because of the beads' weight.
If you'd like to create something less realistic, be creative! Use the wire to make the branches wrap around the pot or even pile up on top of each other for a wilder look. Consider adding some unique charms to the mix, like these Cheriswelry acrylic flower pendants, and alternate your DIY branches with some gold leaf ribbon from WedFeir for even more texture. Your faux plant might not look real, but it sure will look pretty.
