The Berried Bush Your Front Yard Landscaping Is Missing

Berry bushes can be a perfect way to add pops of color to your landscaping. If you've been looking for gorgeous landscaping ideas to liven up your yard, there are few plants more perfect than berries. While you likely have plenty of options for shrubs with white, red, or purple berries, you could also consider going for something a little different and planting a bush with blush pink berries. The 'Proud berry' (Symphoricarpos 'Sofie') cultivar of the native North American coralberry shrub is perfect for bringing rosy color to your front yard with little effort.

Because they tolerate a range of soil and light conditions, coralberries like the 'Proud berry' are easy to combine with other shrubs to create stunning landscaping displays. They aren't just great for bringing beautiful berries and dense foliage to your front yard, either. Coralberries are also perfect for attracting songbirds and pollinators, and they are even a host plant for some moth species. Parents of small children should use some caution with this plant though, as the berries, despite their beauty, are toxic.

How to grow 'Proud berry' bushes in your landscape

Native to the Eastern and Central United States, coralberries are cold-tolerant, and many can survive in regions up to USDA Zone 2. While the 'Proud berry' cultivar isn't quite that cold-tolerant, it is hardy in Zones 3 through 7. 'Proud berries' can thrive in both full and partial sun, though they produce the most berries in full sun locations. 'Proud berries' are also tolerant of poor soil and can handle a range of soil types. While they grow best with occasional watering, they are also able to handle relatively dry locations.

Because 'Proud berries' rarely grow larger than 4 feet by 4 feet, they are perfect landscaping plants for small spaces and an ideal low-maintenance way to add curb appeal to your front yard. Whether you pair them with other perennial shrubs or with annual plants that are perfect for your front yard, 'Proud berries' add unique and beautiful elements to your landscape.
