Finding a place to put all the powder room supplies is a hassle, especially if you're limited on cupboards. Of course, you could buy something to keep towels and toilet rolls out of the way, but that gets costly. The best answer to your problem may be to DIY a toilet paper storage cabinet that will elevate your basic bathroom using products you already have. You can create the coolest toilet paper and towel storage solution with a fun upcycling DIY, which repurposes wood crates to design gorgeous standing chests.

While you'll need to pick up some hardware from your local home fix-it shop, many of us already have wood crates at home. These things are useful for storing a wide range of items in the closet, or even the garage. By stacking three with their openings facing forward, and attaching hinged wood planks for doors, you create an easily customizable storage space for the bathroom. All that's left to do is decide how to fold hand towels the right way to fit your new setup.

Building your toilet paper and towel storage unit

You'll need to gather supplies before getting started. If you've got materials at home to upcycle, great! If not, no worries, as you can pick some up from a craft or hardware store. The wood crates by Happy Value are some of the most affordable — you'll need three. To make the three doors, grab wood boards. Cut them to fit the measurements of your crates. Some products, like the PONGJA basswood sheets, come in the same size as the boxes. Next, look for small hardware, like the Amaping magnet latch (grab three), and the Waziaqoc hinge sets (buy six singles, or three sets). You'll also want paint or stain and any other decorative features you'd like to embellish with. Now, it's time to get building.

Step one is sanding and painting. Next, screw on the hinges and add the doors and latches. Stack your newly fashioned cupboards and connect them with screws. The YouTuber above places planks of wood between each, but as long as the cabinets sit flush against each other, it's alright to skip this step. Add stickers, decals, or a unique painted mural to personalize your creation. Stencils are a great way to add character. You can also line the inside of each shelf with peel-and-stick for an upscale finish. Add wheels to fill the dead space in the bathroom with a DIY roll-out storage closet you can easily move around. However you customize, you'll have new towel and toilet paper storage that fits your space.
