Reuse Your Favorite Napkins To DIY A Unique Window Treatment

Many of the typical outdated window treatments you're probably used to aren't all that versatile for those who want to maintain privacy while still letting lots of sunlight into a room. For example, when you pull traditional full-length curtains open wide enough to let the sun fully illuminate a room, passersby on the other side of the window can then see right into your home. Thankfully, you can reuse your favorite fabric napkins to DIY a unique window treatment that allows you to enjoy privacy and plenty of sunlight. To do this, just fold pleats into the napkins and add curtain ring clips over the top edge of the fabric.

You can then slide the DIY half curtain onto a curtain rod by the rings and install it in front the bottom half of your window using self-adhesive curtain rod brackets. When you're done, you'll have a half curtain that covers the bottom half of your window for privacy while leaving the top half of the window exposed to let sunlight in. Most of the inside of your home will be obstructed from view. To completely block the view of your home, just install two full-length curtain panels above your window as you normally would right in front of the half curtain. You can then shut the full-length curtains for complete window privacy for your home. When you open them to let light in, you'll still maintain some privacy thanks to the half curtain underneath.

Attach curtain hooks to your napkins and install them over your window

To create this alternative window treatment, start by folding pleats into your fabric napkin. Use the AMZSEVEN Curtain Rings with Clips or a similar product to hold them in place. Attach as many curtains as you need to cover the width of your window side by side using the clips. You can then use an iron and starch spray to reinforce the pleats. Alternatively, you could also use a needle and thread to sew the pleats down for a more permanent solution. Use the rings you previously attached to slide the curtain onto a rod. Consider selecting a rod that complements the pattern on your napkins as well as the color scheme used throughout the room.

When you're ready to hang the half curtain, install the CIEMGNZOC Curtain Bracket Holders or a similar product onto the sides of your window and hook the rod into it. If you would like to mimic the above full window treatment setup, you'll need to finish off by installing full-length curtains over the half curtain. There are a few tips you'll need to layer your curtains successfully, though. If you make your half curtain with patterned napkins, the full-length curtain you layer over it should be a solid color for visual balance. Additionally, the color of the outer curtain layer should complement the half curtain underneath it.
