When you're considering doing some painting yourself, one of the best DIY painting tips to make the job easier is to use a high-quality roller that consists of the right materials to match the surface you're going to paint. However, these rollers can end up costing quite a bit more, so you'll want to clean the rollers well so you can continue using them in the future to gain the most value from your investment. Cleaning them properly can allow you to use them at least three or four times.

A product for cleaning rollers that's receiving some attention on TikTok and Instagram is the Spinout Paint Roller Cleaner ($28). This rectangular, box-like device attaches to an outdoor spigot, garden hose, or a utility sink faucet, allowing you to wash the roller without having to ever touch it. You might need an adapter to make it fit your utility sink faucet that should ship with the Spinout product. You'll run the water over the spinning roller inside the Spinout box until you no longer see paint-colored water running out of the bottom of the device. TikTok user @woodworking.teacher measured the cleaning process at an impressive 16 seconds.

Although social media users make it look like a great product, does the Spinout Paint Roller Cleaner really work as easily as it appears? We took a look at reviews from actual customers to help you decide.

Many customer reviewers appreciate the effective design of the Spinout device

Customer reviewers at Amazon give the Spinout Paint Roller Cleaner a 4.2-star rating out of 5 stars. One customer reviewer said the device worked exactly as expected, completely cleaning everything. "[I] attached it to a garage sink, and it cleaned three paint rollers perfectly. ... It saves so much time[,] and you can extend the life of your paint rollers."

A customer reviewer on the Spinout website received a recommendation about the Spinout device from a paint store employee while DIY-ing a house painting job with a stucco exterior. "We were able to do the whole house with just 2 rollers because this roller cleaner worked so well. ... It saved us from having to use new rollers at the end of each day [and] section of painting, so [it] saved us money." The device removes paint so well that one customer reviewer says the paint roller is ready to use immediately after cleaning. "There's no need to remove the roller from the handle. It works fast [and] with less water. Does a really good job fluffing the roller."

Not only do many customers appreciate the design of this Spinout model, but one customer reviewer loved the durability of the product: "I had one of these before, and it lasted 20 years before I broke it."

Some customer reviewers say the Spinout doesn't live up to the hype

Although the Spinout Paint Roller Cleaner has mostly positive reviews, some customers did not like the product. On Amazon's website, 9% of reviewers gave this product a 1- or 2-star rating.

One customer reviewer would prefer to wash the rollers by hand, such as by using a multipurpose tool to clean the paint rollers. "[The Spinout] takes too long [and is a] waste of water. [It's a] bulky space eater. ... Easier to clean by hand." Although the Spinout product instructions say it's easy to connect the device to a hose or faucet, one customer reviewer said the system did not work. "[It] did not hook to [a] hose as advertised and did a poor job cleaning the roller."

One customer reviewer says people with a low-pressure water supply will struggle to use this device. "If you don't have high[-]pressure home water, don't buy it. ... I've tried it on a couple of hook-ups, both in house and outside at the hose bib, and neither location was able to come close to cleaning the roller." Although the Spinout website says the adapter for faucets is part of the product order, one customer reviewer said no adapter was included. Additionally, "the marketing video makes it look easy. However ... I have had a frustrating time getting it to spin the 9[-inch] roller and even smaller rollers."
