Essential Green Paint Colors That Emily Henderson Swears By

Biophilic design is absolutely taking over the design world right now, but if decorating your home with plants just isn't enough, consider giving your spaces a new coat of a lush color. Trendy neutral green paint colors offer a fresh alternative to simple grays and beiges, saturated emerald tones can help to bring a luxe, moody look to your space, and mint shades are perfect to brighten up a room while still creating a tranquil atmosphere. With so many great options on the market, however, it can feel impossible to narrow down your choices. While nobody can make the final decision for you, Emily Henderson, designer and host of HGTV's "Secrets From a Stylist," has some suggestions to get you started off on the right foot.

In a post on Instagram, Henderson laid out six colors that are sure to impress even the pickiest DIYers. Shades range from the lighter, gray-green Mountain Road to the deeper, cool-toned Rocky River. While there's plenty of variation, they all have one thing in common: They're fairly neutral. While they might not be your top picks if you're looking to add bold color to your home, these colors are perfect for those who want to create a serene, flexible space. They're perfect to pair with other organic tones, materials, and shapes. Looking for some contrast? You can also use these paint colors as a backdrop to help balance out more sleek modern accents and materials.

Emily Henderson's top picks

All of Henderson's picks are, conveniently, from Sherwin Williams, so if you wanted to test them out yourself, it'll be easy to pick up your samples in one place. Out of the six, three shades toe the line between brown, green, and gray. Evergreen Fog — Sherwin Williams' color of the year in 2022 — is the lightest. Mountain Road is a bit deeper, and, according to Henderson, it's also a bit of a chameleon. "In this dark room it just reads as warm and green, whereas in a room with a lot more natural light you might see the yellow pigment come out more," she said in her Instagram post. Rounding out the true neutrals is Pewter Green, a cooler shade that's perfect for those who are looking for a more unique alternative to gray.

Henderson's three other selections are a touch more saturated. Laurel Woods is the perfect lush, dark green, ideal for a moody study or bedroom where you're not afraid to create a bit of depth. Next up is Rosemary — a fresher take on the green trend. "This is a green with a little more warmth and pairs beautifully with brass or silver hardware. Soft and cozy!" Henderson said. Finally, there's Rocky River, which is the coolest of the bunch by far. The blue undertone pushes it slightly more towards teal, but the subtle darkness of the shade is enough to keep it feeling complex and layered.
