The Best Place To Hang Bathroom Accessories And Towel Hooks

The placement of towel hooks and other bathroom accessories is often one of those things you don't think about until it's been done poorly. It's only when you've had to exit a shower and walk across a bathroom to grab a towel, leaving puddles everywhere to grab a towel, that you realize how important towel hook location is. The same goes for toothbrush and toilet paper holders. Putting towel hooks, bars, or rings within easy reach of the shower is the best way to avoid frustration and wet floors. Similarly, toilet paper holders make the most sense close to toilets.

Of course, proximity to where they are used isn't the only factor to consider when deciding on locations for these accessories. You also want to make sure they're at a height that makes them easy to grab. This may vary depending on the heights of the people in your home and whether you need your bathroom to be wheelchair accessible. For example, it's best to put towels for children at lower heights so they're easy to grab. Robe hooks and towel racks for adults can be set higher. In the case of toothbrush holders, there are also hygiene considerations to keep in mind. Store your toothbrush away from the toilet and even the sink to avoid germs and bacteria landing on it.

Using towel hooks and other accessories in the bathroom

While in a perfect world you should try to hang your towel bar about 4 feet from the ground and your robe hooks 70 inches off the ground, all within easy access of your shower or bath, not every bathroom is set up to easily accommodate that. If you are dealing with a small bathroom space, there may not be a lot of free real estate on the walls for hooks or racks. In that case, utilizing the space over the toilet, or even on the back of the shower door, may be your best option. You can also move away from towel bars altogether if you're trying to maximize space and only use hooks and rings. If your bathroom door is close to your shower, then that could be a perfect spot for a few towel hooks.

Ideally toilet paper holders should be located about a foot from the front of the toilet, but if you don't have a good spot on your wall for one, you can always consider improving your bathroom's functionality with a freestanding toilet paper holder. Because it's important they stay clean, you shouldn't compromise too much with the location of your toothbrushes. If you don't have a sanitary spot to secure a toothbrush holder, a wall-mounted cabinet with a door that can be opened and closed could be a good solution.
