Create A Cutesy Toilet Paper Holder For Your Bathroom With A Simple Upcycling DIY
A cute toilet paper holder can add to your quirky bathroom aesthetic. However, if you are looking for something a little more traditional that you can make on your own, a simple DIY upcycling project could be just for you.
Start by collecting your materials. Because this DIY uses a lot of upcycling, you may already have what you need lying around the house. Start by finding a large, clean, plastic bottle that is slightly larger than the width of the average toilet paper roll you use. Most rolls are around 5 inches in diameter, so a bottle that is 6 inches or larger would work great. The last thing you want when you need a roll of toilet paper is to have it stuck.
You will also want to find some cute fabrics that matches your bathroom's aesthetic. This DIY is a great way to repurpose old clothing in your home if they can't be donated. An old shirt could be a great option to add either a solid color or a pattern to the design. Also, while this project could be done with one shirt, adding a second fabric with a little texture could help make the design pop. This fabric could be some burlap, a blanket, or maybe a placemat. Just note that a lighter fabric will likely work better for this DIY.
DIY your new toilet paper basket
To begin, cut the top off the plastic bottle that you are using. To ensure that the edge of the plastic is smooth, sand it with some sand paper. Then, wrap the bottle in the textured fabric, so that the edges hang off the top and bottom of the bottle. Hot glue the fabric to cover most of the bottom of the bottle, and then tuck the top of the fabric inside the bottle and glue. Glue your second fabric of choice around the top edge of the bottle, so that the back of the fabric is facing out. Glue the two sides of the second fabric together. Pull the fabric up over the bottle, so that it turns right-side up. Leave about two inches of fabric on the outside of the bottle and tuck the rest inside the bottle. Finally, cover two round pieces of cardboard with the first fabric and glue them to the bottom of the bottle — one on the inside and one on the outside.
After that last step, the project is technically complete. However, adding some embellishments can help jazz up the design. There are many options that could work to help make this design great for your home. For instance, a floral patterned fabric with faux flowers and leaves could create a nature-inspired design, while a black fabric with a metal pushpin boarder could give the design a more modern feel. And, if you love a creative bathroom look, consider creating another DIY funky toilet paper holder your inner child will love.
