Bees are a lively symbol of spring, instantly adding a natural charm to your space. If you're all abuzz about the season's arrival, why not create an adorable piece of art celebrating these industrious pollinators? With just a few crafting essentials, you can make a DIY bee shelf sitter for your home to brighten your room's spring decor. You'll start with four wooden dice, which are painted and then decorated with letters, either with pre-cut wood or vinyl stickers. The finishing piece will be a cheerful accent to decorate a bookshelf, tiered tray, or tabletop.

Shelf sitters are small, decorative items that add whimsy anywhere they're placed, and this one is un-bee-lievably cute. If you're the kind of person who likes to redecorate each time we approach a new season, you'll love the versatility this DIY offers. With a few simple changes to the color or accessories, you can make a tailored piece that fits any need or theme. Whether you make it to give as a gift or keep it for your own shelves, you'll enjoy making this shelf sitter that's as sweet as honey.

How to craft an adorable bee shelf sitter

Wooden dice will serve as the base of the shelf sitter, spelling out the word "buzz" when stacked, with a letter on each die. Since these dice are a popular Dollar Tree item for creating DIY corner shelves and other home projects, they may be out of stock at your local store. If that's the case, a great alternative may be William Craft Wood Blocks. However, if you'd rather have a rounded design, then you can buy a set online, such as the Patikil 100-Piece Wooden Dice. Next, grab the rest of your supplies: a square sponge paint brush, your chosen paint shade, letter decals, a stack of buttons, and glue. Of course, no bee decor is complete without the tiny insects themselves! You'll also need a set of small wooden ones, such as Penta Angel Tiny Wooden Bees

First, coat your wooden dice (or cubes) with paint. Once dry, apply your letters either by stenciling them or using the stickers. Then, glue the dice stack together and add a wooden bee on both the top and bottom die. Now, to turn your sponge paint brush into a honey dipper. Remove the foam head and paint the handle. Create the honey dipper top by gluing a stack of buttons together. Then secure it to the paintbrush handle, before finally adhering the wand to the side of the shelf sitter with a bow.

Making your spring bee decor all the buzz

You don't have to follow the hive mind when creating your bee decor! There are plenty of ways to customize this project. While the YouTuber who shared it painted her dice white, you could instead paint them with alternating shades of yellow and black, like a bee's stripes, or simply yellow. You could also try soft pastel shades. Add a series of tiny bee stickers, like the Wangheng Mini Bee Sticker, to the sides for more dimension, or pair a vertical "bee" stack with a horizontal "happy." You could even use it to decorate a spring-themed wreath.

After you've created this DIY decor, you might have quite a few cubes or dice left. Enjoy putting your own touch on it for other seasons or holidays. Want a cute Halloween decor idea? Try using an orange and black design, complete with miniature ghosts or pumpkin accents. If creating one for winter, you could feature white and traces of silver, along with a sparkling snowflake or snowman. Need an idea for fall? Paint the dice brown and gold with small leaf embellishments.
