The Terrarium Alternative To Display Your Tiny Air Plants With Style

Air plants are so cute. They're small, low maintenance, and they don't need any soil to thrive. These little plants get the nutrients they need to survive directly from the air, which makes them incredibly versatile as home plants. Because air plants don't need a whole pot and soil system, they can be displayed in fun and creative ways. Typically, people like to use small glass terrariums, but there are tons of alternatives you can try. For example, you can build this simple hanging planter for your air plants out of wood and small copper pipe elbows.

This is such a fun and easy DIY that you can do at home. The idea is to attach little copper pipe elbows with glue to a wood plank. These will serve as the vases for the air plants. To get this done, you need a few supplies. Pick up a few Uxcell 90-degree copper elbows. Then, get a piece of wood like these Aodaer wood panels for crafts. You'll also need some glue (a hot glue gun or some E6000 adhesive). Finally, you'll need two small Black+Decker small screw eyes and some twine to attach the planter to the wall.

How to DIY this tiny air plant holder

The steps to do this hack are simple: First, lay the wood panel flat on a table and decide where you want to place your copper elbows (the vases of sorts). Mark those spots with a pencil if you'd like to make sure they're even and aligned before you attach them with glue. Once the glue is dry and the vases are secured, attach the little screw eyes on each end of the wood panel, at the top. The wood should be soft enough for you to do this step by hand. Next, repurpose a piece of twine and attach it on both ends to the screw eyes. You can now stick your air plants into the vases and hang your new DIY planter from a simple nail on the wall.

There are plenty of ways to customize this DIY. First, you can use wood panels of all different sizes. Do a small square with just one copper elbow, or get a longer rectangle and stick more vases on there. You can also paint the wood or decorate it for a different vibe. In addition, try copper elbows that are slightly wider, which can be used to house bigger air plants. Let your imagination run wild to mix and match sizes and attach these copper elbows at different heights on the board. Whatever you do, this is such a fun alternative to the more traditional air plant holders, like tiny terrariums and jars. If you're looking for a similar hack but don't have the supplies, use some sticky tack to attach the elbows directly to the wall for some temporary air plant holders.
