Erika Dale, House Digest's interior design expert and founder of Erika Dale Interior Design, confirmed that the scallop trim trend could be dating your home.

As popular as this detailing technique once was, the expert explained that it's now fading out of style. "Furniture with scalloped trim and details was definitely all the rage in 2024," she said while speaking exclusively to House Digest. "However, as quickly as these things rise into popularity, they can unfortunately fade [just] as fast. Such is somewhat the case with scalloped wood detailing on furniture pieces. While very whimsical and playful, the trend is waning in 2025." That said, if you are not ready to let go of the scallop trim aesthetic, there are ways to subtly incorporate it while maintaining a sense of modernity in your home. Dale revealed some of the scallop-style items that will never go out of style and shared which pieces you should avoid to steer clear of.

Rather than opting for the popular scallop trim decor pieces you see within homes that embrace the trend, consider the more timeless options instead. "There is absolutely a way to embrace the vibe and overall spirit of scalloped trim without leaning too hard into the trendy side of it," Dale told House Digest exclusively. "Avoid basic scalloped trim wood furniture, as the trending look can come across a bit childish or unsophisticated when not done well."

Decor pieces that aren't as bold contribute to a look that is more timeless than it is trendy. "Look for smaller, softer details like scalloped trim or edges on drapery, pillows, small area rugs, or woven baskets," Dale explained.
