The Bathroom Fixture That You Can Repurpose As A Drying Rod In The Laundry Room

Are you constantly looking for more places to hang shirts and pants that have just come out of the washing machine? If the answer is yes, you'll probably want to investigate purchasing and installing a drying rack for your laundry room. However, a traditional clothes hanging bar isn't always the most elegant or practical solution. Oftentimes, the fixture can be an eyesore, especially if you're rarely filling it up all the way. In other cases, it can occupy far too much of the overhead space you have available, which can actually lower the functionality of your laundry room instead of increasing it. For a more elegant solution, you might want to consider repurposing a bathroom towel bar as a drying rod in the laundry room. These hardware pieces could be the perfect way to start creating a more efficient and stylish laundry room.

You can easily install a set of bathroom towel bars on any open stretch of wall within your laundry room. However, to create a more fashionable space-saving solution, you could put these fixtures up on the underside of your existing shelves instead. TikTok user @kate_rumson has a quick video that shows us just how visually appealing such an arrangement can be. The polished metal of the hardware pieces that Kate uses gives her laundry room a lux vibe, and matches her sink and lighting elements. Kate's space is quite large; however, towel racks could be a great way to make the most out of a small laundry room.

Putting up towel bars in your laundry room for drying clothes

Before you install anything, take a quick look at the existing hardware within your laundry room, if there is any. Ideally, your new towel bars will have the same color and finish as these pieces, so that your space has a cohesive color palette and design aesthetic. Next, you'll need to evaluate how much extra space you need for drying. A benefit of using small towel racks here is that you don't need to install a big hanging bar that you're never going to fill up. Now, you should have a good idea of what the size, color, and finish of your new fixtures will be.

To affix a towel bar to the underside of a wood shelf, first mark where you're going to put the mounting brackets with a pencil. Check that the distance from the marks to the side of the shelf is even, so that the fixture won't be crooked. Next, drill pilot holes for the bracket screws, and attach the brackets to the wall. Secure the towel bar holder to the bracket on one side, slot in the bar, and then install the other side's holder. If you want to hang your towel bars on the wall, attach them to your studs where you can, and use drywall anchors or toggle bolts wherever you can't. Alternatively, you could get a product like the Wavetoka Collapsible Wall-Mounted Drying Rack, which will also help you save space.
