Create Budget-Friendly Rustic Entryway Decor With A Few Upcycled Dollar Tree Items

Entryway artwork is a great way to add harmony to your home and show your personality. If your entryway is lacking decor but you have not found artwork that seems suitable, then it might be time to make your own. Your artwork can look refined and cohesive even if you are not a painter or photographer with a simple DIY created by YouTuber She So CraftDee. The result leaves you with a rustic wood frame around an intricate metal-looking interior, and it will increase the visual interest in your foyer. Best of all, it can be completed on a budget primarily using items from the Dollar Tree.

You can choose the number of pieces you create, but for three pieces, you will need three Black Garden Fences (there's an ornate and more modern version), zip ties like these Tool Bench 8-inch Nylon Cable Ties, and wood pieces such as wood furring strips, scrap wood, or Crafter's Square Craft Wood Planks. On top of those necessities, you'll also need whatever items you want to customize your look. The YouTuber uses white chalk paint, brown acrylic paint, black acrylic paint, and black spray paint. However, you may want to try out other paint colors or even experiment with wood stain, depending on what you want your final product to look like. You will also need a handsaw, wood glue, hot glue, screws, a drill, heavy-duty scissors, wire cutters, some twine, a staple gun, and a paintbrush.

How to make this DIY wall art

To create three frames, cut six wood pieces that are 22.5 inches long and six pieces that are 5.5 inches long. If you do not have a method for cutting the wood, check out this hardware store wood-cutting tip that will save time on your home improvement project. Lay out two of the 22.5-inch pieces so they are parallel, then fit the 5.5-inch boards between them at the ends to create a rectangle. Glue the pieces in place using hot glue or wood glue and wait until it dries. Then, use a drill to insert wood screws for more security. Use pilot holes for a secure attachment. Once assembled, paint or stain your frames and leave them to dry.

Next, using scissors or wire cutters, cut the bottom stakes off the fences. Carefully cut along the seams of the fence designs so you have four identical pieces. You can then trim them as little or as much as you want to create various designs with the wire cutters. Consider clipping off the top arch or removing the bottom line. To secure the pieces together, take two the pieces with bottom lines and lay them down so they mirror each other with space in the middle. Then overlap the other two pieces between them. Connect all four pieces with zip ties and hot glue. Spray paint it for a more finished look. Use hot glue and/or staples to adhere the interior to the frame, and staple some twine at the top of the back so you can hang it on the wall.

How to personalize this DIY piece

The best part of any DIY is the ability to customize it to perfectly suit your space. For example, you might choose to add more or less distressing with the acrylic paint on your frames depending on how rustic you want the result to look. If your entryway walls are white, you might also want to create more contrast by staining the wood instead of painting it white. To better suit a more glamorous look, you can spray paint the black fence pieces gold or white. Changing the number of pieces or hanging them horizontally rather than vertically will also drastically change the effect of this DIY. There are endless ways to adjust the look of this DIY, and always remember that it can be repainted, repaired, and rearranged over time, so it is well-worth the affordable price of materials and time.

Once you have created your rustic DIY, consider finding or making more pieces of artwork that are perfect for your entryway. The entryway is the first thing people see in your home, and hanging artwork increases feelings of safety and comfort, so don't be afraid to add more until your space feels meaningful and reflective of you. Add wreaths, mirrors, and other elements as well. To further enhance the space, you might also try out one of many stunning entryway accent wall ideas.
