DIY An Affordable Spring Decor Piece Using Dollar Tree Items

When the new buds bloom on the trees and green blades emerge from the ground, you know that spring is almost here! Instead of picking up a pre-made decoration from the shelves of a big box store, let your creativity grow with a delightful piece of spring decor made with dollar store items. By combining a Gold Rim Clear Charger Plate from Dollar Tree with some decals then trimming with a few pieces of ribbon, you can make a cute spring-themed plate that's perfect for displaying on a picture easel.

As we welcome this new lively season, it's time to embrace that desire to craft all kinds of DIY home decor for spring. Dollar Tree is a must-visit store for any crafter who wants to attempt new projects on a budget. Not only do they have countless crafting supplies available for $1.25, but many of their items are versatile and multi-purpose. A common underrated Dollar Tree item is the brand's charger plates. Available in various hues and rim designs, these budget-friendly favorites are a blank canvas waiting for your whimsical creations.

Creating your affordable spring-themed decor

After choosing your charger plate, you can either paint it or work with its original color. For the center design, find a photo you like and attached it to the plate with a few beads of hot glue. If you don't have a suitable image, you can try a decal or rub-on transfer. Focus on choosing a large piece as your focal point, as the rest of the plate will be framed with ribbon and florals. We like EW Design's Spring Bird on Branch Watercolor Art and Maydahui's Colorful Butterfly Flower Pots Wall Decals. You could also decoupage pictures of flowers, bees, or other spring elements.

Image set, you can now frame your decor with the ribbon. While florals often say "spring," another classic seasonal choice is polka dots and pastel ginghams. Cut a piece of ribbon to at least 5 inches, fold into a bow, and pinch in the center to make a pleat. You may also simply tie it into a bow. Then add your ribbon tails in a rippled style to the plate's rim, gluing down only the edges. Affix the bow on top of the ribbon, and crown with a few flowers, such as the Floral Garden Spring Petunia Bush from Dollar Tree.

Customizing your spring decor

Don't be afraid to customize your decor. Dollar Tree offers many ways to add creative flourishes to your project. If you're working with a plate without a beaded rim, sprinkle some sparkle in your project with a set of the brand's Crafter's Square Shiny Gem Stickers. Available vibrant colors, like pink and green, the gems can help accent the edges of the plate. Plus, instead of flat floral decals, you could opt for the Crafter's Square Paper Flowers for a 3D touch.

Your final result will accentuate a mantle or shelf well when you display it with a miniature easel. With a dab of hot glue and some twine, you could make it into hanging decor for the door or wall. You can also highlight the "time" in springtime by transforming your Dollar Tree decor into a beautiful DIY modern wall clock. Drill a small hole in the center, being careful to not damage the image in the process. Add a clock kit (we like the IKROUND's Youngtown Clock Movement Mechanism) and use the kit's original clock hands or spray paint them a pastel shade, such as pink, green, or yellow for an extra touch of spring.
