Make A Stunning Modern Entryway Table With IKEA Salad Bowls

Your entryway is an important interior design space that shouldn't be overlooked. An entryway or console table is often the first thing people see when they enter your home. They let visitors know what to expect from the rest of your decor, and in many cases (like with the DoorDash lady) may be the only part of your house they will ever see. It might be time to give your entryway some much-needed attention. One way to do this is with a modern entryway table for a warming and inviting first impression, and this DIY might be the perfect solution.

Cassandra Noel from @cassandranoelhome on Instagram made her own DIY version of an entryway table she saw for $10,000. As so often happens, she loved the look but not the price tag. While we couldn't find the original inspiration table, we did find a similar version on Wayfair (the Wade Logan Caedance Concrete Console Table) for $2,400 — still an extremely steep price. Using eight of IKEA's BLANDA MATT serving bowls ($24.99 a piece) as the legs and cutting a scalloped edge into a wooden board, she created a stunning, unique entryway table that's sure to make a similar impression for a fraction of the cost — and you can do the same for your own home. This DIY table doesn't take up much space and works in any of the three kinds of entryways.

How to make an IKEA bowl entryway table

You can use a large hardwood board for the tabletop, which can be purchased at any hardware store. Trace a downturned BLANDA MATT serving bowl to create the large scalloped design along one edge, then cut the wood using a jig saw. Another option is to skip the scalloped edge for a more streamlined look. Next, build your legs by gluing two of the serving bowls together with heavy-duty construction adhesive like Loctite. To make the whole thing sturdier, you may want to add sandbags or weights to the bottom-half of two of the spheres before gluing the top. Fill the sides with wood filler as well to create one, cohesive sphere.

Next, sand all of your wood pieces before staining. In the video, @cassandranoelhome uses a Minwax pre-stain wood conditioner, followed by two coats of Minwax stain in Dark Walnut (wiped down with a rag for a faux marble look) and finished with a Minwax Polyurethane Spray. Also consider swapping the stain for paint. Once everything is dry, you can glue two spheres together to make the two legs, then glue the wood on top with the scalloped edge facing outwards.

To add height to the console table, you could add one more sphere per side, or even half a sphere. You can also cut and stain two boards, placing one between the two vertical spheres as a shelf to create extra storage space.
