Create Storage For Cluttered Bathroom Countertops With An Easy Dollar Tree DIY

It seems like the clever options and solutions to free up bathroom countertop space are continually popping up across the internet. Each hack is usually both budget-friendly and can be done with simple items found at local Dollar Tree stores or home goods shops. While many of these are certainly worth checking out, one DIY will offer you multiple sections to keep everything from hair tools and toiletries to guest basics. By using a few Dollar Tree items, you can create a countertop storage caddy that is both functional and stylish.

Your shopping list might vary depending on what your local store has and if you want to customize your caddy, but the basic items you will want to grab from Dollar Tree are a lint roller, one jumbo metal pencil cup, three metal pencil holders, and a circular glass cutting board. The lint roller is going to act as your handle or a way to maneuver your tray, so if you want to swap this out for a thicker wooden dowel, you have that option as long as it can be glued flush in the middle of the tray to allow you to grab it.

How to make your countertop storage caddy

Once you have all your supplies, decide if you would prefer to paint them or keep them as is. Obviously, if you're trying to match a certain aesthetic, it's ideal to spray paint the pen and pencil holders, and even the tray and lint roller, although this may require two different kinds of paint for the plastic and glass materials. Matte black, all white, or even gold are great options and will add a subtle style that doesn't give off a cheap finish. This will also help everything blend together to seem like it is one unit rather than a DIY crafted together.

After allowing everything to dry, place the circular cutting board on a flat surface. Arrange the pen and pencil holders around the edge of the cutting board and the lint roller (or dowel) in the middle. If you're using the lint roller, make sure to remove the roll of sticky paper and place the handle in the center of your organizer, as that's the only piece you need. Once you have it arranged how you want, use superglue to secure the items in place. You can get more creative here by adding small wooden blocks to act as feet under the caddy or even secure a lazy Susan base to the bottom of the glass cutting board so it spins.

Create your own countertop creation with different cutting boards

To customize your caddy, choose varying sizes of pen and pencil baskets, especially if you want to adjust what you keep inside them. The larger baskets are ideal for hot tools and will help organize your bathroom and protect countertops from heat, but smaller baskets can hold everything from Q-tips to cotton balls and even toothbrushes, and you might even get four smaller baskets on the board if you forgo the larger one. You don't have to rely on the full three baskets or the circular cutting board to store you bathroom items, though.

If you need more space or have a larger counter, purchase a bigger cutting board in a rectangular shape. Alternate large and small pen and pencil holders along this, creating space for a variety of toiletries, like spare tissues and soaps that are useful to guests and family members. Some of the baskets can also be used to store rolled-up wash cloths or hand towels if you use the caddy in a guest bathroom. This simple and budget-friendly DIY will put an end to bathroom counter clutter while elevating your space.
