Transform PVC Pipes Into A Stylish Floral Centerpiece With An Easy DIY

Whether you're planning your dream at-home wedding or an elaborate dinner party, or simply adding a floral element to your dining room table, the work it takes to prep your home for hosting can only be outshone by the cost. Vases can especially add up because you don't want to skimp on quality. One way you may be able to save some money without sacrificing the quality of your decor is to DIY the centerpieces. Not only can you avoid those extra expensive metals or fine glass materials, but you also get a way to customize the look to perfectly suit your needs. In typical DIY style, you can turn a few unexpected materials into a luxe vase, with one of the most surprising being PVC pipes.

Hear us out: Utilizing PVC pipes doesn't mean opting for construction zone-chic. With some sandpaper, a piece of wood for the base, and spray paint, you can fit the finished product to the aesthetic of your space or event but on a budget. A few more tools that could come in handy for this project are a power drill, screws, PVC screw caps, and a PVC pipe cutter. Then it's time to get started.

How to turn boring PVC into a luxurious centerpiece

To get started, you have to have a vision in mind. Are you looking for a single, elegant flute? Or would a multitiered arrangement with four or five flutes of varying heights be better? Once you know what look you're going for, cut your base to the size and shape that you want. The main requirement is to make it sturdy enough to lay flat when there is an arrangement on top. You also need to be able to drill into it to hold the PVC table screw caps into place.

Next, it's time to cut the PVC pipe to length. The fantastic thing about using PVC is that it comes in long tubes that can easily be cut with a hand tool. Something like this Bate's Choice PVC Pipe Cutter is both highly rated and inexpensive. It should easily cut through pipes a little over 1 inch in diameter. After the pieces are cut, sand the outside with sandpaper and then wipe it down with a damp sponge to remove the grit and help the paint stick. The next step is to screw the PVC table screw caps into place on the base with the power drill. The PVC pipes should slide easily into place, and then you're ready to paint. Next up: the fun part!

Making the piece your own

There are so many ways to make this centerpiece your own. The most obvious is to pick the paint color that suits your event the most. Luxurious gold is a go-to, but maybe a darker matte shade will help your flowers stand out. A solid black is not only perfect for bold decor, but the flowers you choose to put in it will pop in contrast.

Outside of color, you can customize the shape of the base too. If, instead of a perfect square, you want the flutes to be lined up single-file down the center of a narrow table, you can cut the base long and narrow. This would be cool with pipes cut to be alternating short and tall. Or, if you have access to and skill with using a saw, you could make a circular base and arrange the pipes in a spiral going up. Don't forget that you can choose the diameter of the PVC pipe as well. So you could make a single, wide vase or alternate sizes. Just make sure that you can find the right size table screw cap.

There's no reason that paint and floral arrangements have to do all of the work. Accessorize the piece with shiny embellishments to catch the eye. Attaching something like this JIAKAI Hanging Acrylic Crystal Garland under the arrangement is a dazzling decor choice. You can also go more festive with Christmas ribbon for something likely already in your closet. Since there are so many creative ways to decorate your home with vases, it is easy to find inspiration for matching the centerpiece to the surrounding aesthetic.
