HGTV Fans Can't Get Behind One Detail In Erin Napier's Home Town Kitchen Makeover
"Home Town" star Erin Napier typically knocks it out of the park with her home makeovers. From sophisticated bedroom transformations to affordable kitchen upgrades, the designer is truly a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to renovation. However, Napier unintentionally issued a reminder that even the experts miss the mark sometimes during the Season 5, Episode 2 of "Home Town." Some fans thought she made a major blunder on the show by installing wallpaper with an out-of-place lemon pattern as an alternative to a kitchen backsplash. Napier took to Facebook to share a photo of this controversial transformation. Fans didn't hesitate to let her know they just can't get behind the busy lemon pattern on the haphazardly installed wallpaper.
"I usually love the way your rooms turn out but I have to admit I really don't like this look," one user wrote. "It may look better in person but it is just too busy for me. But then I really don't like any busy designs on a wall whether it is tile, paint, or wallpaper." Another commenter penned, "I love wallpaper but not the way this is laid out. It looks weird under only part of the shelving. Like its not finished." Some comments pointed out the off-putting wallpaper choice may have been the result of the lower budget used for this home transformation. However, there are quite a few far more aesthetically pleasing budget-friendly backsplash alternatives that would have produced a more cohesive end result.
The bright and busy wallpaper didn't match the kitchen renovation
As you can see, the wallpaper with the bright colored lemon pattern doesn't exactly complement the neutral color palette used throughout the kitchen. It's also awkwardly installed on only the lower half of the wall, right above the stove and countertops. This may have been because Napier didn't have a large enough budget to install a traditional tile kitchen backsplash for this project. However, as one commenter pointed out, it's totally possible to find alternatives that would have complemented the design scheme used within the kitchen.
"I understood the money savings factor and the great cause for this project of love but the lemons on the wall for a backsplash wasn't my favorite, the rest is absolutely beautiful!," they penned under the Facebook post. "I'm sure for that small piece to cover, some inexpensive subway tiles could have been found!" The subway tile suggestion would have been a great alternative for Napier, and this material can also help you install your own kitchen backsplash on a budget. There are tons of low-cost options to choose from, such as the Daltile Subway Tile sold by Home Depot for 15 cents per tile.
If you prefer to use wallpaper, you might want to opt for something more dialed down and timeless, like plain wallpaper in a neutral color. The Jeweluck White Wallpaper comes in a few color options that might work well in your kitchen.
