The Dollar Tree Bucket DIY With A Country-Chic Easter Decor Result
Decorating for Easter doesn't need to break the bank, especially if you're willing to get crafty. Dollar Tree offers plenty of opportunities to DIY Easter decor that delivers cuteness overload, as well as create budget-friendly dupes, like chic Pottery Barn-inspired pieces. One dupe we're particularly fond of this season is a country-chic carrot basket, which originally retailed for $30 at Michael's. You can find all the necessary supplies at Dollar Tree for a fraction of the cost (under $10) and DIY your own version. You'll need Jute Carrots (a six-pack is just $1.25), Floral Garden Decorative Rope, a piece of burlap, and an Easter pail. When choosing the right pail, opt for one with perforations if possible, as it will be easier to cut.
Start by popping the handle off of the basket, then use a carrot as a ruler and mark its height around the circumference of the bucket. The idea is to slice off the top portion so you're left with a bucket that can be fully disguised by the carrots. Now, just as you would cut a plastic bottle for other crafts, use an X-Acto knife to work your way around, wearing protective gloves to be safe. Alternatively, you can use scissors. Discard the top half and get to decorating the remaining portion of your bucket using the jute carrots and string.
Create a country-chic Easter basket with jute carrots and string
Place a piece of burlap on a flat surface and hot glue it to the bottom of the bucket, pulling the material tightly up and over the lip. Use dollops of glue to keep it from shifting, but don't worry about perfection, as it will mostly be hidden. Next, glue the jute carrots all the way around the exterior of the basket, squeezing them tightly together so no burlap peeks through.
If possible, pop the handle back on — otherwise glue it to the sides, hiding the ends amongst the carrots. Wrap the handle with jute cord, then use another string to cover the bottom of the inside of the basket. Start by wrapping the cord around the top of the basket (gluing as you go), then coil it tightly downwards, moving around and around until you reach the bottom and the plastic and burlap are no longer visible.
Alternatively, you could make a basket from scratch using jute cord. Hot glue burlap material to a bamboo ring to create a base. Wrap it with rope, then twist it upwards, stacking the cord and gluing it to itself until you achieve your desired height. If, on the other hand, you're tight on time, you can glue the carrots directly on a pretty Pastel Bamboo Basket and wrap its handle in jute cord. Whichever version you DIY, fill it with colorful eggs, bunnies, or fabric carrots and you'll have a whimsical centerpiece that's the perfect companion to the cutest Easter decor made from Dollar Tree clay pots.
