Keep Plastic Lids Neat & Organized In Your Cabinets With An Easy Dollar Tree Hack
Plastic food storage containers are must-have items in your kitchen, but if you're not storing them efficiently, they can quickly create clutter within your cabinets and drawers. While the boxes themselves will sometimes stack together neatly, the lids that accompany them tend to come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. If you're tired of sorting through your entire collection of lids every time you want to put away your leftovers after dinner, it might be time to create a dedicated organizer for them. Luckily, building such a contraption is easy. All you'll need are a few Crafter's Square wooden dowels from Dollar Tree, some poster tack, and a basket with holes along the sides. One of Dollar Tree's Large Rectangular Slotted Baskets or an Assorted Rectangle Wire Basket should work perfectly for this quick and simple DIY.
To create your new lid organizer, cut your wooden dowels down so that they match the width of your basket. Then, slot them through the basket's holes, and use the poster putty to hold them in place. The dowels will effectively serve as dividers, so that you can separate your lids by both shape and size. With this clever decluttering trick that'll keep your kitchen organized, you can rest assured that you'll be able to find your food storage containers quickly as soon as you need them.
Tips for putting together your DIY container lid organizer
There are a few ways you could potentially make this hack even better. Before you start the DIY, consider sorting through your lids to determine how many different sections you need within the organizer, and which of these sections should be larger than others. To save space in your kitchen, you might also want to check and make sure that each of your lids actually has a corresponding plastic container, and get rid of any that don't.
Interested in making a dedicated space for smaller lids? On one end of the organizer, you could divide one of the sections in half with another dowel that's glued into place at a perpendicular angle from the others. A bottle of Loctite Clear Quick-Dry Super Glue, or a similar adhesive, should be enough to hold the extra dowel in place. You could also use this kind of glue in place of the poster tack, in case you don't like how the putty looks. If you're worried about the stability of your container lids, you might want to install two dowels for each divider, with one higher up in the basket, and the other one directly below it. If the dowels are taking up too much space in the organizer, you could swap them out for the Cooking Concepts Bamboo Skewers from Dollar Tree.
