How To Create A Chic, Custom Storage Solution Using Items Found At Dollar Tree

There is no shortage of stylish and functional storage solutions out there. However, some of these products are so expensive that it's often a better idea to just build a DIY storage system at home. This also gives you the ability to customize components however you'd like. One project worth trying out is a chic, custom storage unit you can hang from the wall. To build it, simply cut a few pieces of wood to size and attach them to one another with a staple gun to create the base for the wall storage display. Then, add metal coat hanging hooks and a few metal cooling racks.

Once this project is fully assembled, you can use the coat hooks to store jackets, umbrellas, or anything else that would fit into the hooks. Place hanging baskets onto the metal cooking racks to use to store any other small items you cannot hang from the hooks. You can pick up most of the materials you'll need for this project from Dollar Tree for only $1.25 each, including the Over the Door 6-Hook Hanger, the Cooking Concepts Metal Cooling Racks, and the Tool Bench Hardware Nylon Cable Ties. Along with those Dollar Tree products, you'll also need to pick up a few pieces of wood and spray paint in a color of your choice.

Create your wall storage solution in just a few steps

To build your DIY hanging wall storage solution, start by cutting your wood pieces to size. You will need four shorter pieces of wood and two longer pieces. Although you can cut the wood at home, you might find it easier to simply purchase it from a home improvement store that will cut it for you, such as Lowe's. To find the required measurements, space the Over the Door 6-Hook Hangers and the Cooking Concepts Metal Cooling Racks out in the way they would be placed on the wood frame, and measure around them.

Once you have your wood pieces, hot glue four of the door hook sets onto the four corresponding shorter pieces of wood and place them horizontally between your two long pieces. Make sure that the space between each horizontal piece of wood is large enough for one cooling rack. Use a staple gun to secure the wood together. Next, stick a cooking rack in each of the spaces you left, and secure the racks to the wood with your cable ties. Lastly, spray paint the DIY outside.

Consider hooking a few of these Spectrum Hanging Baskets onto the metal cooling racks at the back of your hanging storage to make it even more versatile. You could also hang decorative elements like the Hanging Layered Wood Décor onto the hooks. When it comes time to put things inside this storage solution, refrain from placing heavy items on the hooks or inside the DIY wall basket. You may also want to screw this hanging storage to the wall for stability.
