Reuse Quilting Hoops For A DIY Hanging Planter On The Fly

If you love decorating your home with plants and doing easy DIY projects, there's a fun way to create a piece that will compare favorably with the trendiest indoor planters. You can repurpose a quilting hoop you find at a thrift store or hidden among your unused crafting supplies for a stylish hanging planter. Along with the quilting hoop, all you will need is a wooden bowl, some twine, some E6000 Craft Adhesive or the equivalent, and hot glue.

Start by choosing your wooden bowl; it should fit snugly in the bottom of the quilting hoops. Separate the two parts of the hoop. Then apply some of the E6000 glue and the hot glue to the inside of the larger ring on the top and bottom; combining the two types of glue will allow for an extra-strong hold. Attach the smaller ring inside the larger ring facing the opposite direction, and hold it together until the hot glue dries. Use the E6000 glue and the hot glue on the bottom of the bowl and attach it to the inside of the structure. Tie the twine around the top of the quilting hoops and hang it in your desired location. Add your favorite real or faux greenery, and your project is complete! (If you decide to use a live plant, make sure to seal the bowl with a clear sealer like Olympic WaterGuard Clear Multisurface Exterior Waterproofing Sealer Spray.) Need help choosing an indoor plant? Ideas for personalizing your DIY hanging planter

To make this hanging planter fit your home's décor, you can use acrylic paint on the bowl, the hoops, or both. For a stark modern look, consider matte black and white paints. If you love a pop of color, choose a bold hue to complement the plant. You could paint your own design for a more whimsical feel, or if you love a rustic look, use a stain instead. If using a live plant, you can seal the bowl once the paint or stain is completely dry.

In addition to customizing the color of your DIY hanging planter, you can also add other décor elements. Consider adding lighting like these Albelt Battery Operated Fairy Lights; if you use a faux plant, you can hide the battery pack inside the bowl. You could also experiment with using multiple hoops in one hanger for a unique design, or create multiple hanging planters with different size bowls and quilting hoops to create a stunning décor arrangement!
